What I’m Watching – Gooding Amelia Island Auction (Mar 7) – Updated

Gooding & Company – Amelia Island Auction – March 7

Lot 28
1960 BMW 700 Coupe
No Reserve
Their estimate: 12,000 – 18,000
My estimate: 20,000 – 25,000
Update: Selling Price – $40,700 (While my estimate was closer to the selling price than the auction company’s, it was still so far off I don’t think I can brag too much.)

Race-Specification BMW K100 Engine and Five-Speed Gearbox. Competition Brakes, Roll Cage and Suspension. Accompanied by Original Matching-Numbers Engine.

This is the last in a long line of BMWs being auctioned. A niche car in search of a niche owner. I think there are more potential buyers than the auctioneers expect.

Yes, that’s it. A single car. Apparently I’m not the target market for this auction.
While this car breaks so many of the rules of the world of collector car auction quoth, It would be so much fun to drive and so much fun to show off at any kind of automotive event.
