100 Words – Rusty Dinosaurs

Her shop was guarded by rusty dinosaurs. They told me it would be. But no words could not prepare me for the inside. Colors and textures like the inside of a soft, living geode. Objects of interest and desire. I wanted to buy it all.

She said she had to read my fortune first. Wanted to see if I was worthy of her wares. I sat across from her, a cloud of incense between us. I cut the cards and she flipped three over. She told me things I should have known, but didn’t believe.

I left empty-handed and afraid.
