Tom's Race Log
The track to myself (10/20/2008)

Features

My first time on the Monza track in three months. It was Sunday morning and I was the first kart on the track, and had the track to myself. The tires were ice cold and the floor was ice cold, but both warmed up nicely after a few laps. I was in kart #13, but had no bad luck.

There are good things and bad things about being the only kart on the track. The good thing is that nobody gets in your way. The bad thing is that there is no sense of competition. Trying to catch, or pull away from, or pass another kart is a great motivator. Without the other karts it becomes an academic exercise. That's not a bad thing though. It allowed me to do some experimentation and I found some good things. I wound up about a second behind my best time, but I don't think I could have done any better on the cold track.
