Tom's Race Log
Nine Tenths (7/28/2008)

Features

Back on the big track after just two months. I managed to knock nine tenths of a second off my previous best time. Most of the improvement came from the corner I call the fish-hook. I tried several different things and found the unfortunate not-so-secret to getting through the corner quickly. It was the obvious answer, slow down. It's one of those things I know in the back of my mind, but find so hard to put into practice. The more I slowed down going into the corner, the faster I came out, which meant a higher top speed in the following straight. I kept worrying that I was slowing down too much, but according to the laps charts I never got to that point.

The coolsest part of all this though was that I actually managed a spot on the weekly and monthly fastest laps lists for the super track. For the week I wound up 30th and for the month I was 79th.

The kart handled well. It had good traction in the corner. The engine seemed to have more than the usual horsepower, but at the same time, lifting off the throttle slowed the kart down more than usual. There were a few corners where I normally have to brake, but this time lifting the throttle was enough. What might have been happening was the torque converter was locking up more than usual.
